MEET OUR PEA HISTORIAN - RETIRED DETECTIVE FLORA STERN

Flora not only knows our history, she IS a part of our history.
Flora is has been on the PEA Board as the past Retiree’s Representative and now our Historian.
She served in the NYPD from 5/16/1969 – 6/1999.
One of Floras first NYPD assignments, in 1971, was to the Old Headquarters building on Broome Street and then later assigned to 1 Police Plaza.
Flora has many stories from when she was assigned to confidential police work, crowd control, disaster relief & response, traffic assignments, parades and special events, along with administrative duties.
As a historian, Flora recalls how the job has changed throughout the years.
Since her retirement, Flora remains vigilant and a strong figure within the PEA board. She and her husband Joel attend every event.
Joel is also the PEA’s first Associate Member of the PEA. Not only is he a supportive husband, he is our biggest cheerleader and believes whole heartedly in our organization.

Not only has Flora lived through a colorful NYPD career, she continues to give by donating Equiptment, photos and other memorabilia to the NYPD museum. Although the NYPD museum is closed due to renovations, the museum continues to preserve her donated items along with all the other donated pieces of history from our PEA sisters.
